Let’s take it to Japan today with Yeye’s “ はみ出て!” or when translated to English, Get Out!. This is a 2022 pop record from YeYe who is famous is providing very soothing, smooth and relaxing vocals paired with emotional instrumentals. This was recommended to me by a friend who is a singer and a big fan of Japanese artists. That person was where I learned of YeYe at the start due to a funny interaction with one of our friends on the track “Swaying” during the intro line. Anyways, let’s talk about the album!
“Get Out!” is somewhat of a change in style for YeYe as there is quite a lot of energetic and bopping songs in this record, taking clear inspiration from the City Pop and Jazz with many of tracks that I do not know the names of but know the position in the album. The second track is especially rich with a hypnotizing piano that compliments YeYe’s angelic vocals that is backed by a damn funky bass that creates a near-perfect track for a nice walk.
But of course, we still have the mellow and slow tracks that highlight YeYe’s vocals front and center like the 7th and last track. Beautifully haunting yet soothing in every single way, just as YeYe intends. The 7th track in particular reigns supreme in giving that somewhat early 2000s R&B sound which I absolutely loved. The last track was a rather odd yet very soothing messy composition that is a rather melancholy way to end the album.
There is also a heavier, rock-inspired track like in the 6th track which is more akin to a J-Rock sound, but still doesn’t take away from YeYe’s vocals as she sounds the most energetic in this track with the multiple harmonies adding the perfect amount of spice to this track.
As a fan of many J-Pop albums, this was definitely a very interesting yet very YeYe album as there’s a very solid mix of soft pop mixes, funkier bops and heavier rock songs that gave a lot of variety to this album. It’s a very easy listening yet an album I’d want to listen to again.
