As I scroll through my music catalogue, I realized that many of the albums here were stuff I haven’t listened to in a while. So, I decided that to trim my “backlog” albums, I’d listen to every single Album I had downloaded in reverse order. Starting from the most bottom album to the very top.
So why then is an album that starts with a letter A sits below? Quotation marks, that’s why.
Anyway, let’s talk about the album. This is Childish Gambino’s magnum opus, one of the hallmark R&B albums of the 2010s, Awaken, My Love. This album features Redbone, a track many of us should be familiar with as it is genuinely one of the best R&B tracks in modern times. It’s so beautifully melancholy with just the right about of feels to get you to reminisce about times you never experienced.
But the album is more than just Redbone. From the insanely deep reaching bass of Me and Your Mama all the way to the beautifully hopefully Stand Tall. Every track in this album is a treat, even California which is arguably one of the weirdest tracks I’ve heard ever.
But the feelings this album exudes is insane. It’s not your typical R&B album with topics of romance and love but this talks about you as a person. This talks about society as a whole. And this talks about The Night ME and Your Mama Met.
Absolutely beautiful from start to finish, this is one of the all time greatest albums I’ve heard. So much so, this became my sleep album for a long time. And dosing off to any track feels so ethereal. Must listen!
