Hey ya’ll! I just spent a couple of hours with the KZ Symphony and I’d like to share my out of the box impressions of these very intriguing set!
Priced at $69 and on sale for $59, these marks as a first for KZ as it features a single 13.2mm planar driver and a single 6mm dynamic driver.
First and foremost, this comes in a similar box to the CCA Rhapsody which I theorize to be their “experimental” box as the Rhapsody was also the first of its kind for KZ.
Inclusions wise, its your usual KZ cable and eartips, so nothing much to talk about that.
As for aesthetics, I love how they basically teased how the Symphony would sound by mixing the shape of the Rhapsody/Trio and the grill-like faceplate of the PRx series of IEMs. What I was genuinely surprised with was how small these are for a Planar + DD hybrid. Granted, this is just a 13.2mm planar and a 6mm DD, but still a very impressive feat considering the Rhapsody was an absolute chonkers. I guess they took a page out of the book of the Trio and made a very compact IEM. It makes the Symphony a surprisingly comfortable IEM despite its above-average size.
But obviously, you’re here for the sound impressions. So how do these sound? Well, this is essentially the love child of the CCA Rhapsody and KZ PR3. You take the deep, rounded bass of the Rhapsody with the sparkly, energetic, and very well-extended treble of the PR3. These basically address the two main problems that people had with both sets; Rhapsody lacking the technical chops and PR3 lacks the low end to contrast the high frequencies and creates a Frankenstein’s monster of big, engaging bass and bright and airy treble. If you loved both sets, you’re almost 100% guaranteed to love the Symphony. Its technical chops are definitely a step-up from the Rhapsody in terms of detail, but sounds considerably more fun and less clinical (albeit sounding a little thinner) than the PR3 thanks to the insanely good bass presentation. And while not perfect, the Symphony definitely marks itself as a very interesting direction that KZ is heading towards their planar series of IEMs.
