Another day, another EPZ IEM. This time around, we’re taking a brief look at the Q1 Pro. The update to the legendary (albeit unheard by yours truly) Q1 and is priced at $40. I’m here to figure out whether EPZ keeps it consistent after the rather fantastic first impressions I had with the EPZ Q5. Without further adieu, let’s go!
The unboxing experience is very straightforward without much to talk about. It’s a rather small box where the IEMs, eartips and a basic carrying pouch are all housed in.
As for the IEM itself, it’s a very lightweight and small resin shell with a very attractive faceplate. I genuinely love the sky blue color that the Q1 Pro uses as it looks so cozy and clean. But probably my favorite thing about the Q1 Pro is the fit. It’s damn with the correct eartips, the Q1 Pro’s become genuinely one of, if not, the best fitting and most comfortable IEM I’ve ever worn. The cable is a little stiff for my liking but is more aesthetically attractive than other sets in this price range.
But finally, let’s talk sound. Like the Q5, the Q1 Pro features a bright neutral sound signature but doesn’t push the treble as far as the Q5. It’s a more generous upper midrange focused set that is more akin to the Harman 2019 target with how the bass is boosted but tucks down in the midbass to lower mids which gives a cleaner, leaner yet more dry overall tone. What blew me away however is how coherent the midrange sounded overall. Timbre was very consistent throughout the mix and I found that both the male and female vocals exhibited very consistent qualities by sounding clean and open with a lot of nuance. Both male and female vocals had superb note definition which the Q5 somewhat lacked due to the treble emphasis. However, the treble has the tendency to sound a little grainy on some tracks. But unlike the Q5, the Q1 Pro
Regardless, this makes the Q1 Pro one of the cleanest-sounding sets I’ve heard in a while. I would’ve liked a little bit more midbass emphasis to give the vocals a little bit more weight and make it sound more engaging, but these are perfect for listening to more vocal-centric and instrumental tracks. The EPZ hype is real!
