Hey yo! TRI is back with a new budget release with the Draco. This is one of the more interesting releases by TRI so far with a 2DD set-up and an open back shell. Let’s see if this brings TRI back into the conversation for solid budget offerings in 2024!
Unboxing wise, it’s what you might expect from TRI products. A simple, medium sized box with a starry aesthetic and a very straight forward unboxing experience. I really appreciate TRI always including the Clarion’s in their IEMs because they’re my favorite eartips of all time! Sadly, they only included medium and large sizes in the package.
The highlight of the Draco is that large vent that makes the Draco a semi-open back IEM. Whether you believe open back IEMs actually work or not, you can’t deny this is an awesome design. The sleek silver finish with the vents shaped like the TRI logo makes the Draco arguably one of the coolest looking IEMs that I’ve seen recently. The fit is surprisingly good, albeit a little unstable due to the longer nozzle not really pairing well with the medium clarions. I ended up looking for my personal small clarion set to use with the Draco.
As for the sound, the Draco features a very deep and expansive stage which is to be expected for an openback IEM. However, it still maintains a solid tuning with a thicker, warmer and more relaxed tone overall that makes this set a treat for longer listening sessions. I found myself immersed not only in the music I listen to but also the content I was consuming. Whether it’d be movies or games, the Draco proved itself to be a surprise hit! That darkness means that this is not a set for trebleheads, but I found the treble of this to be perfectly sufficient and complements the warmth and darkness well enough for me not to feel like this set sounds choked or low-res.
