Let’s take a brief look at Dunu’s latest single DD and an update to the Dunu Kima with the $120 Dunu Kima 2.
Starting with the unboxing experience, Dunu has been killing it with the illustrations. Granted, it is a little overwhelming with the amount of detail on the design. But you can’t deny that the amount of work that was put into making this art must have been insane. Just as insane as the Dunu treasure trove of inclusions that make Dunu IEMs some of the most complete package at any price range.
What makes the Kima 2 special is the inclusion of an acrylic stand of the artwork. I’m not going to deny that I’m not really the biggest fan of these kinds of themes,, but Dunu commiting to the theme is something I can appreciate them for committing to the the theme.
But it just keeps getting better because the build and fit of the Kima 2 phenomenal! A full metal build with a matte finish and a near perfect fit makes this probably my favorite looking and fitting IEM of all time. Yes, all time. The cable is similar to the cable that was included with the Dunu Titan S2 but with a slightly different connector. This is the only kind of sleeved cable I like because the sleeve is only on the bottom half and not after the top splitter.
As for the sound, the Dunu Kima 2’s strongest feature is its timbre. I kid you not, this has one of the best sounding timbre of all IEMs under $200. Linear but nuanced bass, clean, lush but engaging midrange and an aptly energetic but inoffensive treble makes this probably my new reference set under $200. And to think that it’s just a single DD! However, its weakness is its somewhat lackluster technical ability. It’s not under technical, but it’s not going to win any technical awards for its price. Its focus is providing a very satisfying and clean listening experience over a technical or analytical sound.
