My (technically) first earbud review and it’s Aful! No, not awful. But the brand that blew up for its “Aful” name. Quite a pricey set costing $179, but is it justified?
The unboxing is quite decent with a lot of donut foams being provided and one of the nicest carrying pouches I’ve seen. It’s spacious and feels quite premium. It would have been nice to include the rubber donuts as it’s far more durable than foams.
The earbuds themselves are quite unique. I haven’t seen this exact form factor on earbuds before, and I’m kinda bummed there hasn’t been other manufacturers that have tried this form factor. It’s just the right size for my ears and stable enough to stay in my ears with foamies. There is a slight issue with the shape of the stem itself and can cause a shallower fit due to the proximity between the buds and the stem, but I found it to be stable in my ears.
But $179 for earbuds? Is it even worth that price? Short answer, it depends. Earbuds are arguably the most difficult piece of audio gears to review because earbuds arguably have the most “variance” when it comes to how it fits someone’s ears. If you’re like me, boy these earbuds truly sound special. As someone who’s spent a considerable amount of time (and money) testing different earbuds ranging from DIY to prebuilts, the Polar Night stands out as being one of the most full sounding earbuds I’ve tried. Sure, subbass isn’t quite there which has to do with the form factor, but everything else just sounds right. The mids are warm, smooth but not overbearing or unnatural in any way, instruments have the right amount of impact and timbre while maintaining a really good sense of detail and crispness and the treble is so well controlled that I’m willing to compare this with headphones near its price range and prefer this sound wise. It does so many things right tonally which is a shame for those who can’t accomodate for earbuds. But anyone who’s gifted to enjoy earbuds as I am will absolutely adore this set.
