BEHIND THE BOX: Celest Wyvern Qing

  • August 17, 2024

Celest has been riding the dragon train with the Wyvern and has released the Abyss and now, the Qing! Sporting a prettier colorway and the same $30 asking price, does the Wyvern Qing still compete against the tough sub $50 market?

Unboxing wise, the Qing takes a step back from its dragon brethren and keeps footprint small while keeping the looks great! Inclusions are as barebones as the older sets and have made the package a more environmentally friendly rather than abundant.

Where they flaunt is in the new scales of the Wyvern. With 2 new colorways, the Wyvern keeps the ergonomic and well-fitting nature while adding prettier colors for everyone to fawn over. I know I fawned over the green variant I received for longer than I wanted to, but I’m just glad they didn’t tamper with the fit and seal. This is still one of, if not, the best fitting IEM under $100 I’ve tried and it’ll probably stay that way for a while.

They admittedly opted to also not change the sound of the Qing from the original, and it might be for the better. The original Wyvern had a beautiful rendition of the Harman 2019 sound signature with a rather clean low end that is free from coloration while keeping an elastic and tactile low end, an expectedly lean midrange thanks to the exuberant upper midrange and a beautifully toned down upper frequencies that make it perfect for treblets more than shoutlets. The Qing bares a different face but the same guts as the Wyvern and I’m all for it. This is one of the few almost pure Harman sets that I enjoy because of nuances that it delivers compared to other “Harman” set in the market that does the tuning for the sake of the trend.

Thank you for reading my full impressions on the Celest Wyvern Qing.
