One of the surprises I had during the SIAS was Dunu’s new planar tribrid called the Dunu DK3001BD. I thought that it had an insanely technical and detailed sound for what I was told would be around 4000rmb. So I just knew I had to review it and see for myself. So let’s see what this $499 DK3001BD brings to the market.
As you might expect, Dunu has gotten the unboxing game within their grasp. From an aesthetically pleasing box to a treasure trove of inclusions, you’d never find Dunu lacking in the accessories and presentation department.
Another aspect of Dunu IEMs I adore is their build quality. Every single Dunu IEM I’ve tried from their resin shells to their metal shells are built like freaking tanks while being comfy and not at all weird. The DK3001BD is no exception and cranks that quality up by having this sick cyberpunk-like design that I’ve only seen in EVA themed IEMs or Acoustune’s weird edgy designs. The DK3001BD unfortunately uses MMCX, but I’d argue it’s respectable considering that DUNU’s MMCX are usually well-implemented. The cable is like a beefier version of the ones that come with the Titan S2 and Kima 2, so I approve of it!
And for the sound, my impressions are no different from what I experienced during the SIAS because these are probably the best bright-leaning IEMs I’ve heard under $1,000. There’s not a lot of IEMs that try to go this bright without messing something up, but Dunu did exactly that and they have my total respect. This just has such a crisp and analytical tone that rips apart the music that you listen to with precision and accuracy. But its biggest strength is also its weakness as it tends to sound a little dry and lean on some tracks. But if you like brightly tuned, analytical and detailed sets, the DK3001BD is one set you CANNOT miss
