Remember when Dunu challenged the reign of the Moondrop Aria in 2021? We might get a sequel war this coming 2024 as Dunu has finally released the update to their budget king the Titan S with the Titan S2. Let me share my first few hours with you all!
The unboxing experience of the TItan S2 is, as you might expect from Dunu, very bountiful. It comes with the same set of inclusions as the Dunu Falcon Ultra minus the adaptor and the cleaning tools. The accessories alone already make this worth every penny.
But it only gets better when it comes to the build & fit. The Titan S2 is an edgier version of the original Titan S’ cyberpunk-ish design while keeping the distinct center dot motif. It’s comfy despite the edges, although you might want to tip-roll as the stock tip can be a little problematic.
The stock cable, named the Lyre Mini, is simply amazing. This is the best-sleeved cable that I’ve ever tried as it’s durable but lightweight and comfy. The Q-Lock mini is also one of, if not, the best modular systems I’ve ever tried.
Sound wise, this is a complete contrast to the original Titan S. If the Titan S was a bright neutral beast, the Titan S2 is a thick, rich and engaging set. It keeps the very energetic upper midrange presentation that rolls off naturally into the treble, but adds more low end to give it a warmer tone compared to its predecessor. This makes it arguably a much safer set and improves the dynamics, timbre and tonal balance from the Titan S. One aspect it didn’t really improve on is the technicalities, but honestly feels unfair to say it’s worse because the Titan S2 just sounds like a completely different as a set overall.
This is a very interesting set to talk about due to how much they changed the tuning from the original and reminds me of the whole Heart Mirror vs Heart Mirror Pro debacle, but I’ll save my thoughts for my full review!
