At long last, the 3rd of Timmy from Gizaudio’s IEMs, the $299 DUNU DaVinci is probably one of my most anticipated sets this 2024. After a solid run-in with Galileo and Chopin and my personal experience with DUNU as a whole, I had VERY high expectations with the DaVinci.
And expectations were not only met but exceeded greatly. This is seriously one of the best warm neutral IEMs I’ve heard by far.
But let’s start with the unboxing which, if you had seen other DUNU IEMs, means a truly bountiful accessory list. Dunu S&S and Candy tips, a very high-quality case, cleaning tools, big boy jack adaptor and the IEM and cable themselves.
And boy, the IEMs are quite the stunner. I heard from some people that the faceplate is randomized, meaning your DaVinci is YOUR DaVinci. And my unit in particular looks beautiful! The wooden accent with the right shade of brown looks absolutely stunning. Unlike the SA6 which looks beautiful, fits great but has air pressure build up, the DaVinci looks good, fits well and has no air pressure build up. It’s on the fatter side, so people with smaller ears might not find these to be the most secure in the ear, but these are much more comfortable to my ears compared to the SA6.
The cable is also genuinely really good. I’d even say that this is better than the cable that comes with the SA6. The modular design also feels more sturdy and the interface feels so damn premium. The strands themselves feels very premium and comfortable without being tangle-prone or stiff. This along with the Letshuoer modular cable are, by far, my favorite modular cables from stock IEMs by far.
But if you thought that’s as good as it gets, you are absolutely mistaken. The DaVinci is a complete contrast to Timmy’s first set as it features a warm, deep and punchy sound. The bass is the highlight of this set and goodness does it go deep. I immediately booted up some Silk Sonic and vibed so hard after a long 4-hour commute from school and my exhaustion immediately disappeared. Male vocals sounded rich but not muddy or bloated, bass guitars and kick drums slapped you with precision and tactility without sounding muddy and the rest of the frequencies perfectly complements the sound signature by providing a clean, neutral but well-detailed sound. Obviously, this is no dry and analytical set for detail lovers, but it’s no slouch in that area either. It’s very well extended on both ends, but exceptionally at the low end. And despite the warmth, separation and layering sounds clean, and the imaging and head stage can be quite expansive thanks to the depth of bass complimented with the clean air region.
If you’re a fan of warm, low end focused sets but still want to have a clean-sounding mid to treble, the the DaVinci is probably one of the best to get under $500. Only one set comes to mind that features this kind of warm neutral sound and it competes VERY well against it. I’ll be comparing that set in the future, but take a guess what it is while waiting
