BEHIND THE BOX: NiceHCK DB2

Heyo! Let’s take a brief look on NiceHCK’s return to the DB lineup to finally complete the trilogy with the $26 NiceHCK DB2!

If you’ve seen NiceHCK’s marketing and promotional material before, you should probably be aware of their usage of anime characters on their package. Whatever your stance on that may be, you can’t deny that their artworks are pretty high quality for packaging that will probably just get thrown away by most people.

But if you thought it was just the packaging, then you’d be terribly mistaken as they also provided a photocard of the character in an even better quality print. Waifu lovers will surely have a field day with this set!

Outside of that, the accessories are quite good for the price. You get a plethora of tips and a nice magnetic scratch-protection case.

The build and aesthetics of the Db2 is truly something to be admired. This has a very similar aesthetic to their more expensive NX7 MK4 with the wavey blue aesthetics wrapped with a metal frame and a clear resin shell. The fit is also quite good and is a massive improvement from the DB1’s horrendous fit.

As for the sound, the DB2 is an oddity in the market as it combines the older W-Shaped tuning with big bass, early eargain and spiked up treble with a surprising level of refinement and maturity. The bass is surprisingly well done, although lacking in nuance, with a solid amount of quantity to balance out the forward upper mids that peak at around 1.7 – 1.8khz which is very early, especially at 10db. It tames down the energy a little bit at the 5-6khz mark which is certainly an acquired taste style of tuning and the distinct BA sparkle and splash in the mid to upper treble that give it a “brilliance” effect in the treble region. The highlight is how uniquely it presents instruments without going too much on one side. Admittedly, this is not for the timbre-heads or those that seek the most “neutral” sounding set, but a set for those who want to spice up their collection. Or you really like waifu’s and want to collect every single product that features one. No judgement!
