BEHIND THE BOX: Oriveti Dynabird

Is that a bird? Is that a plane? Nope, it’s a Dynabird! Corny intro aside, this is my second foray into Oriveti’s set and I’m quite excited to share my thoughts on this somewhat nostalgic sounding $99 set!

First and foremost, the unboxing experience is truly an experience. And by that, I mean it’s very basic. But that’s not a bad thing at all. The simplicity shows that Oriveti isn’t one to be flashy on the outside and would rather let the IEM itself do the talking. This is also true when it comes to the inclusions as they’re quite basic with the case being larger but narrower than your usual carrying case in this price range and the 07 style and basic narrow bored eartips.

One of the things I have to commend the Dynabird on is the build and fit. This is a very well-built IEM that also looks and fits good. It reminds me a lot of their OD100 mixed with the TIn HiFi T2. The similarities are uncanny! The cable pairs really well too and is the kind of braided cable that I really enjoy.

Now, moving unto the sound. The tuning of the Dynabird is, I kid you not, how it looks in the graph. It’s a very energetic, upper midrange and treble forward set with really good subbass extension. This is a set reminiscent of the past years of Chi-Fi and their obsession with bright v-shaped sets like the TFZ, Ikko and older KZ IEMs. Of course, the technicalities are improved considerably and the refinement of the sound is much better, but the tuning philosophy is there. However, this is definitely an acquired taste type of IEM as this is what some people would call “outdated” tuning. Personally, I appreciate companies coming up with these aggressive and energetic sounding IEMs to spice up the market, but I also cannot deny that this isn’t something that everyone would like. So if you’re into bright v-shaped IEMs with solid subbass extension and energetic top end, this is the perfect set for you!
