BEHIND THE BOX: Rose Technics QT9 MK3

  • August 10, 2024

I’m back baby! And with one of the most fascinating sets that I’ve received in recent times. This right here is the $180 1DD + 4BA hybrid by Rose Technics called the QT9 MK3. Technically the 3rd iteration of the QT9 but not the 3rd in series. This level of iteration means that this has to be the best of the bunch, right?

Unboxing wise, I have to say this is one of if not the best unboxing experience I’ve ever experienced in any IEM ever. No, seriously. From the minimalist outer box to the genuine treasure trove of inclusions, the only thing that the QT9 MK3 doesn’t give you is a loving girlfriend. Kidding aside, including a balanced dongle DAC is a big brain move for Rose Technics to do.

But that’s not where Rose Technics’ massive brain stops working. The QT9 MK3 comes in 2 options: MMCX and 2-pin. This is in contrast to all their previous IEMs using an MMCX connector exclusive which, for me, is always a con compared to 2-pin. Thankfully, Rose Technics is kind enough to provide you an option to choose 2-pin. The best part? The 2-pin is solid quality, just like the rest of the build. It’s a mixture of resin and aluminum with a smaller form factor which, depending on your ear shape, will fit like a glove or feel too small.

Where the QT9 MK3 proves itself bigger than life is the tuning. While it may look like your usual Harman bass boost set, the execution is superb. A clean, tight but very impactful and well extended bass paired with a very energetic but fatigue free top end that provides you with enough sparkle to keep detail and trebleheads on the edge of their seat. It’s no pure treblehead set, but it’s energetic enough to pass as a treblehead-approved set by me. The metallic timbre is unfortunately the downside of such a vibrant tone, but it balances the overall sound scape better than other hybrids in this price range.

A packed inclusion and a well-done slight u-shaped sound signature makes the QT9 MK3 a set to look forward to, so stay tuned for my full review!
