EA500LM & DEW4X Impressions and Behind-the-shots

  • January 26, 2024
  • kesobie

2024 is starting strong with Simgot’s sequel to the EA500 and their DEW series with the EA500LM and DEW4X. Here are my first impressions on the two.

EA500LM: NOT QUITE THE SUCCESSOR

Now don’t be fooled with that statement. I don’t mean it in a sense that it doesn’t improve on what the EA500 offers. Instead, this improves on the EW200 instead. What I mean by this is that the EA500LM’s tuning deviates from the EA500. Where the EA500 had focus on a more “neutral-bright” sound with emphasis on midbass and upper mids, the EA500LM focuses more on both ends, providing a rich and deep bass and a sparkly but well-controlled presentation. The EA500LM has a considerably cleaner presentation than the EA500 due to a tamer midbass, but also sacrifices the note weight and texture that the EA500 provided. Whether this should’ve been the EW300 in tuning philosophy is ones opinion, but that doesn’t shake from the fact that the EA500LM is another fantastic entry into Simgot’s lineup

DEW4X: SMOOTH OPERATOR

Now this is my first proper experience with a CS dongle, let alone my first Simgot dongle. So my expectations aren’t really all that high. Regardless, I was still very much impressed with the DEW4X’s performance for its form. It is tiny, although on the thicker side. I absolutely loved the design and the purple accents, but it’s hard to unsee that the X on the DEW4X looks like the logo of Twitter (X). As for its sonic qualities, these have a distinctly smooth and euphonic sound that boosts the bass and treble evenly while not introducing additional harshness or fatigue. It’s hard to talk about a source without comparisons, so be sure to stay tuned as I’ll do a couple short comparisons with other sources soon!
