Hey ya’ll! With 2024 literally at our doorstep, I wanted to try something new. I’m calling this, “365 Albums, 365 Days” but I’ll probably change the name to something more catchy in the future. Essentially, this is my attempt of focusing more on the music aspect of audio as I’ve kinda pushed myself to focus more on the gear which really isn’t supposed to be the case.
But of course, I still want to make this something I can share since the beauty of music is sharing it with those around you. So, here’s Day 1 of the 365 Albums.
DAY 1:
Album: Obviously
Artist: Lake Street Drive
Genre: Indie Rock
Year: 2021
So, this album was suggested to me by a very good friend. She knows exactly the kind of music that I’d love and she knew I’d fall in love with the track, “Hypotheticals” right from the get go. And you bet I did! So, I decided to go deeper and listen to the entire album.
And it’s probably no surprise that I loved the entire album. While it did peak at Hypotheticals which may or may not be a mistake putting it front and center, it left me quite satisfied to hear a very consistent vibe throughout the album.
It’s a very groovy, indie pop record with a very smooth and satisfying bass lines, very clean and soothing vocals and just an overall very chill listen.
I never found myself overwhelmed with the musical notations and I absolutely adored the “woke” lyricism in songs like Hush Money and Being a Woman. It’s a solid mix of self aware lyrics while also being quite vibey.
Overall, I loved this album. Not enough for a best of all time, but a very solid start to 2024!
My total absolutely unbiased scoring:
Vibe: 10/10
Flow: 8/10
Mixing: 9/10
Complexity: 4/10
Consistency: 7/10
Fave Track: Hypotheticals
